Neuro Exercise Physiology (EP)
We offer an amazing EP service here at NPG. EPs have the knowledge and skills to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions for our neurological and concussion populations. There are multiple ways to engage in EP services with options ranging from 1:1 sessions to small groups. We perform novel strengthening interventions such as blood flow restriction (BFR) training, ensuring our clients achieve maximum benefit from their sessions.

What is the difference between physio and EP?
Both physios and EPs will use exercise as a treatment intervention, but an EP will also take a very holistic approach towards long-term management of health and function. This includes addressing comorbidities such as diabetes or high blood pressure, as well as the primary neurological condition. Weight gain in conditions such as idiopathic intracranial hypertension can be very problematic and EPs play a vital role in supporting weight loss through safe exercise and lifestyle interventions.
EPs are experts at supporting clients to implement behavioural change to create sustainable, long-term change in both health and physical activity. Physios have a more significant role in diagnosis and treatment.
Blood flow restriction (BFR) training
BFR training uses a specialised cuff to safely reduce blood flow during exercise, helping people achieve strength and fitness gains without needing to lift heavy weights. At NPG we use the world-leading Delfi Personalised Tourniquet System to deliver safe and individualised BFR training.
Many people with neurological conditions struggle to complete heavy strength training due to muscle weakness, pain, fatigue, balance difficulties, or reduced mobility.
BFR can help:
Improve muscle strength using lighter loads
Improve muscle power and physical performance
Enhance walking ability and endurance
Achieve more from shorter exercise sessions
Support rehabilitation when heavy resistance training isn't possible
At NPG we prioritise safety and individualised care through:
Thorough screening and risk assessment
Evidence-informed treatment protocols
Accredited BFR-trained clinicians
Progressive exercise programs tailored to your goals
Close monitoring throughout every session
Liasing with your GP or neurologist where required
